Carousel
Carousel is the second of my coneflower series. The central swirl in this piece was created by fitting stones into holes I had drilled into a spiral pattern. The act of finding the perfect pebble to fit the indentation was a meditative process, one which exemplifies my philosophy of mindful process.
My aim is not to produce a naturalized whole, but various contradictions, -a kind of metaphorical alchemy. The found objects once identified as weaving heddles and bowling pins, have now, by virtue of the assemblage character become a more open-ended inquiry.
Carousel was awarded ‘Best in Sculpture’ at the Octagon Arts Center in Ames, Iowa this year.
